Core issue
There Is No Single Pool Technician Licence
Australia does not have one national pool technician licence that authorises every pool or spa job. The actual work determines the relevant legal authority.
What this means for consumers
A person may be competent at routine service and still not be authorised for electrical, gasfitting, refrigerant, regulated plumbing or drainage work.
Ask what licence or qualification applies to the exact task you need done, not just whether the person is “qualified”.
Clear examples
- Water testing is not electrical authority.
- Pool service training is not a gasfitting licence.
- Disconnect/reconnect authority is not full electrical fault diagnosis.
- Heat pump refrigerant work may need ARC licensing.
